Directions on how to take
Lexapro comes either as tablet or liquid taken orally. It is usually taken once daily and may be taken with or without food. Take Lexapro exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Continue to take Lexapro even if you feel well. If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Warnings and Precautions
Do not take this medicine if you are taking or have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (maoi) (such as furazolidone, isocarboxazid, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline, or tranylcypromine) within 2 weeks before or after treatment with this medicine. Do not take this medicine if you are taking citalopram, or weight loss supplements such as sibutramine or phentermine. Additional monitoring of your dose or condition may be needed if you are taking another ssri antidepressant such as fluoxetine or sertraline, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines such as aspirin or ibuprofen, "blood thinners" such as warfarin, selegiline, tramadol, "triptan" migraine medicines such as sumatriptan, tricyclic antidepressants such as desipramine, lithium, metoprolol, any herbal/natural products (such as st. John's wort).
Possible Side Effects
stop taking Lexapro and call your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical treatment: If you experience any of the following serious side effects such as allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives); irregular heartbeat or pulse; low blood pressure (dizziness, weakness); high blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision) or chills or fever; headache; tremor; nervousness; or anxiety; nausea; diarrhea; dry mouth or changes in appetite or weight; sleepiness or insomnia or decreased sex drive; impotence;, or difficulty having an orgasm.
Storage
Store Lexapro at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
Additional Information
Do not take Lexapro if you: You have a known sensitivity or allergy to any component of Lexapro. Do not start any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including liver or kidney problems, seizures, heart problems, other mental/mood disorders such as bipolar disorder, mineral/electrolyte problems such as low sodium levels in the blood or siadh, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding.
